Product Description

430-9449 Coolant Level Sensor for Caterpillar Engine and Tank Applications

The 430-9449 coolant level sensor is an active capacitive level switch used to detect low coolant or water level in Caterpillar engine and tank applications. Its sensing design has no moving float or mechanical arm, making it suitable for engine-mounted installations exposed to vibration and elevated operating temperatures.

The sensor requires an external electrical power supply and provides a switching signal to the machine monitoring or warning system. It can be installed vertically or horizontally where the original tank design and sensing position permit.

Electrical and Installation Specifications

SpecificationReference
Sensor TypeActive capacitive coolant level switch
Operating Voltage7.5–36 VDC
Applicable FluidCoolant or water
Thread Size1/4-18 NPT
Connector3-pin DT
Wire Length9.8 in / 250 mm
Switch LogicSourcing switch logic

Do not replace the sensor based only on a shared engine model because different cooling-system and tank configurations may use different sensor versions.

Low Coolant Warning Diagnosis

A persistent or intermittent low-coolant warning does not automatically confirm sensor failure. Check the actual coolant level and inspect the cooling system for leakage before replacing the sensor.

The connector and wiring should also be checked for corrosion, damaged terminals, loose pin contact or unstable power supply. Residue around the sensing probe or an incorrect mounting position may interfere with level detection.

After installation, check the threaded connection for coolant leakage and verify that the warning circuit responds correctly when the coolant level changes. Follow the service procedure for the applicable machine serial number.
