The 2401P1278 sun gear is used in the swing reduction gearbox of selected Kobelco excavators. Its long cylindrical gear body and 25-tooth design transfer torque through the planetary reduction system during swing operation.
Correct gear height, tooth profile and center bore are important because similar Kobelco swing sun gears can appear alike while belonging to different reduction stages or machine serial configurations.
Inspect the original gear for pitting, chipped teeth, edge wear, scoring around the center bore and uneven contact across the gear height. Wear concentrated near one end can indicate carrier, bearing or alignment problems elsewhere in the swing reducer.
Metal contamination in the gearbox oil is another reason to inspect the mating planetary gears before reassembly.
Kobelco used different swing reduction configurations across production ranges. A later replacement number may appear in the same parts family, so machine model alone should not be used to confirm fitment.
For verification, provide the excavator model, machine serial number, swing gearbox information, original gear photos, tooth count, outside diameter, center bore and overall height.
