1020329 Swing 2nd Planetary Carrier Assembly

The 1020329 planetary carrier assembly is used inside the swing reduction gearbox of selected Hitachi excavators. It supports the planetary gears and maintains their working position as torque passes through the swing reduction system.

Because several gears operate together on the carrier, the accuracy of the carrier body, gear support locations and center drive area directly affects load distribution inside the gearbox.

A worn or distorted carrier can cause uneven gear engagement even when the individual gear teeth still appear usable.

The Carrier Keeps the Planet Gears Working as a Set

Planetary gears are designed to share the swing load rather than allowing one gear to carry the complete torque. The carrier keeps each gear at the correct distance and angle so the reduction stage can operate evenly.

• Excessive movement between the gears and carrier

• Damage or wear around the center drive area

• Uneven tooth contact on the assembled planet gears

• Metal particles or contamination inside the swing gearbox

If one gear position is significantly more worn than the others, the surrounding bearings, pins and mating gears should also be inspected before the gearbox is rebuilt.

Why Similar Carrier Assemblies Should Not Be Mixed

Two swing carriers can look similar from the outside while using different center geometry, gear support positions, overall height or internal drive features.

The reduction stage is also important. A carrier from another position in the same gearbox should not be treated as interchangeable simply because both assemblies use three planetary gears.

Part number, original carrier dimensions and swing gearbox information should therefore be checked together before ordering.
