Product Description

YN32W01012P1 Swing Reduction Ring Gear

The YN32W01012P1 ring gear is used inside the swing reduction gearbox of selected Kobelco excavators. Its internal teeth work with the planetary gears to form the reduction stage that transfers swing motor torque to the excavator upper structure.

Unlike a sun gear or planetary gear that rotates within the gear set, the ring gear forms the outer working surface around the planetary mechanism. Its internal tooth profile and mounting geometry therefore affect every planet gear engaging with it.

Correct alignment between the ring gear, carrier and planetary gears is important for smooth swing operation and even load distribution.

Why Internal Tooth Condition Is Important

Several planetary gears mesh with the internal teeth of the ring gear during operation. Damage in one area of the ring gear can therefore affect multiple gear contact points as the planetary set rotates.

Pitting, chipped teeth or uneven wear can increase backlash and create abnormal loading inside the swing reduction gearbox. If the damage is severe, replacing only the planetary gears may not correct the original problem.

The complete internal tooth circumference should be inspected whenever the gearbox is opened for repair.

What to Inspect on the Original Ring Gear

Before reusing or replacing the original ring gear, check for:

  • Pitting or flaking on the internal tooth surfaces

  • Chipped, cracked or broken internal teeth

  • Uneven wear around only part of the gear circumference

  • Damage or deformation around the mounting area

  • Abnormal contact marks caused by gear misalignment

  • Metal particles or contamination in the swing gearbox oil

Localized wear can indicate a carrier, bearing or alignment problem elsewhere in the swing reduction assembly.

Check Mounting Geometry as Well as the Gear Teeth

A replacement ring gear should not be identified only by its general diameter or visual appearance. Similar swing reducers can use ring gears with different internal tooth geometry, overall thickness or mounting-hole arrangements.

The original component should be compared with the installed swing gearbox, especially on older excavators where a replacement swing reduction unit may have been fitted during previous repairs.

Part number and gearbox configuration remain the most reliable starting points for identification.

Information for Fitment Verification

For a more reliable fitment check, send the following information with your inquiry:

  • Excavator model and machine serial number

  • Swing gearbox or swing reduction identification

  • Clear photos of both sides of the original ring gear

  • Outside diameter and inside diameter

  • Overall ring gear thickness

  • Mounting-hole quantity and spacing when available

These details help distinguish similar ring gears used in different swing gearbox configurations.
